In the aftermath of American judo fighter Nick Delpopolo's ban from the Olympics for what he described as the "inadvertent consumption of food that I did not realize had been baked with marijuana," Reuters reporter Kate Kelland went searching for an answer to why pot is banned as a performance enhancing substance.
The answer she found, at least scientifically, is golf:
While it is generally accepted that cannabis is unlikely to give athletes any advantage in fast-paced sports, some experts say it could prove helpful in sports like shooting or golf where a steady hand is needed.
Well, there you go: Until Nintendo becomes an Olympic sport, golf and shooting are the two events where "recreation" and "performance" go hand in hand.
