Exotic Pocket Pets class visits Covance Lab in Madison; Real-world ...

On April 12th, the Lab
Animal and Exotic Pocket Pets class?from?the GU-Wausau Campus had an opportunity to
tour the Covance Laboratories facility in Madison. Covance is one of the
largest contract research organizations that supports drug development in the
world
. Their company hopes to help bring ?Miracles to Market? sooner to promote and restore health in animals. The class met with Covance Training Manger Carolyn and AALAS (American Association for laboratory Animal Science) representative Deb for a tour of the facility, clinical skills demonstrations, and a laboratory animal lecture.

The class also had the opportunity to view the individual research rooms, see the variety of species housed there, hear about the technician responsibilities and have a brief introduction to the security involved in a facility such as this. The ability to actually see
first-hand how a laboratory facility is set up and hear how the research
projects are designed and executed gave a ?real world? perspective to
the class. Thank you to Carolyn, Deb, Covance and all of the other personnel
that made this opportunity possible.???~Written by?Diane Scott, DVM, Vet Tech Faculty at Globe University-Wausau Campus.
