>> i was just on the ground in ohio last week. unemployment is way high in that state . it's a very, very conservative, socially conservative state . i was in ash wednesday service, and from the pulpit, thaip said during the prayers of the people , we have to pray for the attack by h.h.s. on our religious freedom . this isn't a college town . it's a conservative state , but unemployment numbers are high. santorum , i think at the end of the day , despite his shrillness and anger, i still think he's going to carry that state unless he imploeds between now and then.

>> i think it's good news because it took place after february 28th . it show a slight bauns for romney out of michigan , but still santorum a working margin. he still has an opportunity there. i agree with jimmy's analysis. if you look at mitt romney 's victories the, he consistently wins voters may recollecting over $100,000 a year, and loses those making less than th a republican primary winning only voters making over $100,000 a year, but when we start bringing in inspe independents and democrats, if you can't win middle class americans, you're not winning a general election .
>> rick santorum talked about religion and we know the criticism of j.f.k., do you think he will play the game differently. chris matthews made an excellent point in that he lost michigan on his own with what he said and the way he handled himself in the interviews and not talking about the economy. do you think he will play a different game the next few days?
>> absolutely. i think chris matthews is correct. i think he did surrender the high ground and talk about what his di tractors want to talk about and didn't turn the subject around to what should have worked for him. look at kent countimy. that hosts grand rapids , the second largest city in michigan . that's home to some of the most christian conservative county. he barely won kent county . he lost michigan more than mitt romney won it.

>> there's been a lot of craziness in iowa. steve, your home state . you had some votes not counted a a lot of what the first team called snaffus. it says romney is ready to do whatever it takes. steve, i'll start off with you one of the things romney team is doing is they have this twitter hashtag. it's grandious newt. they have this digital slogan. rick went to washington and he never came back. the romney team that we saw in iowa willing to get down and dirty. the super pac putting up these vicious ads to take down anyone who is in his way. it seems that he's back, jimmy.
>> this is politics. it's not for the light hearted. the mitt romney wants to go out and play this gain, that's perfectly fine. at least his super pac is out there doing this. if he's not doing that and the super pac is going dirty and playing back politics, let them do that. if he wins the nomination and they go up against barack obama , they will get demoralized. the obama campaign team is on their ball. they know what they're doing.
>> the romney campaign has a web video up going after president obama 's economic leadership saying obama isn't working. where is newt gingrich ? where is he going to make his final stand ?
>> i think if you start counting delegates in the south, there's about 600 delegates down there and the republican party is a southern party . newt clearly is banking on georgia, tennessee and oklahoma. these tactics of changing the rules in the middle of the game, this is a great way to lose a general election . they will really tick off grass root tea partiers and social conservatives with these antics and do this with a two delegate margin.

>> it's flat out gamesman ship. it's cheating. i'm reminded of what jim baker said during the florida recount . you can't change the rules in the middle of the game. that's exactly what the republican party is doing to its own base right now.
